Murdoch is a dynamic university with an excellent academic and research reputation. Murdoch was founded as a research-based university and research remains central to our mission. Staff are employed for their research skills and significant resources are devoted to laboratories, equipment and other forms of research support.   

Murdoch prides itself on being a community-orientated university and offers significant study flexibility to its students. According to those students, the University provides one of the best learning experiences in Australia. An independent publication, The Good Universities Guide, has given Murdoch five stars for teaching, as rated by graduates for five years in a row, an achievement not reached by any other Australian University. In addition, other graduate surveys rate Murdoch the top teaching campus in Western Australia and one of the best in the country.

Murdoch University was founded as a research-based university, and is a growing institution with more than 12,000 students, 700 of whom are undertaking higher degrees by research. The University’s relatively small size is of great benefit to students, allowing close contact with academic staff in a personal, caring environment. Research degrees are available in all academic disciplines in the University, and multi-disciplinary research projects are encouraged.

Murdoch University has Six Faculties, Arts and Education, Health Sciences,Sustainability, Environmental and Life Sciences, Minerals and Energy, Law and Business, Creative Technologies and Media as well as a number of leading research centres and institutes.

Major research centres include - the Asia Research Centre on Social, Political and Economic Change, the A.J. Parker Co-operative Research Centre for Hydrometallurgy, the Australian Co-operative Research Centre for Renewable Energy, the State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, the Asia Pacific Intellectual Property Law Institute, the Institute for Environmental Science, the Institute for Sustainability and Technology Policy, the Australian Centre for Necrotrophic Fungal Pathogens and the Centre for Rhizobium Studies.

Murdoch is a participant in a range of inter-institutional research centres, including the Co-operative Research Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture, the Centre for Research on Women, the Centre for Clinical Immunology and Biomedical Statistics and is the WA Node of the National Co-operative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism. Faculty of Minerals and Energy

The Faculty of Minerals and Energy at Murdoch University includes two Schools, each offering a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses of study. Staff in the Schools are highly qualified and dedicated teachers. They are also actively engaged in research. The Faculty has a number of associated research centres and institutes.

Faculty of Arts and Education

The Faculty of Arts and Education is home to a diverse range of programmes and is committed to research and research informed teaching at all levels of study.

The Faculty of Law and Business includes the following discipline areas:

Faculty of Health Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers research degrees in Veterinary Biology, Biomedical Science, Chiropractic, and Applied Veterinary Medicine. A broad range of research areas are available for study within the Faculty and interdisciplinary research is encouraged. Staff from disciplines in biomedical science, pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical areas are encouraged to collaborate in research programmes and co-operative research is carried out with staff and postgraduate students of other Faculties of the University, other institutions and industry. Research collaborators include: Agriculture WA, CSIRO, CALM, University of Western Australia, Curtin University of Technology, Perth Zoo, Royal Perth, Fremantle, and Princess Margaret Hospitals, the Chemistry Centre and several institutions overseas including the U.S. Centres for Disease Control.

The Faculty's excellent facilities include research laboratories with support staff, modern equipment and facilities, and a 40 hectare farm on campus.

    Teaching and Learning Centre

    The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) provides University services in academic staff development, unit evaluation, student learning, educational design, online learning and educational technologies, HTML authoring and multimedia development. The academic staff undertake research in their areas of specialisation in addition to providing University services. The TLC can offer postgraduate supervision either within the Centre or in collaboration with other Faculties.
