Research Student Conference Travel Awards
The Board funds Conference Travel Awards on a
competitive basis to assist students to present papers/posters at conferences relevant to their research
programmes. Normally, students will receive funding towards one conference in
the term of their candidature. Funding of a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $2500 wil be available.
Please note that, normally, interstate conferences will only be funded to a maximum of $1200.
Applications will be considered in rounds, with the following closing dates:
- 29 February
- 30 April
- 30 June
- 31 August
- 31 October
Research Student Conference Travel Award Guidelines

- Eligibility will be restricted to students enrolled for the
degrees of Master of Philosophy, Master of Education (Research), the
Research Masters with Training, Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Laws (Research)(LLM), Doctor of Education and Doctor of Psychology.
- Applications would normally only be considered for travel
where the primary purpose of the visit is contribution to suitable conferences,
workshops or seminars, whether in Australia or overseas.
- Applicants must contribute to the conference, seminar or
workshop by presenting a paper or through some other form of active
participation.
- Normally no more than one grant from this fund will be made
during the student's candidature (a student transferring from one research degree to another will be
regarded as having a single candidature for this purpose).
- Students who are in receipt of conference travel funding from
an external source, such as an industry award or funding from an employer for
study purposes, may apply for support from the RSCTA. Award will be at the
discretion of the Manager, Graduate Centre, subject to the cost of participation in the
conference, the external funding awarded and the availability of RSCTA funds.
- Students who are academic staff members of this or another institution may not apply if they are
eligible for staff travel funds from their institution.
- Students who have exceeded the time limits allowed for their
programmes (PhD - 4 years full-time equivalent, MPhil - 2 years full-time
equivalent) (and other degrees as appropriate) are not eligible.
- Students who have failed to submit a satisfactory Annual
Progress Report for the previous year are not eligible.
- Students who have submitted their thesis for examination are
not eligible.
- Students in full-time and part-time employment may apply.
- An application will not be considered unless it is supported
by the principal supervisor.
- Awards will be based on fares, registration and per diem. A per diem amount or up to $150 per day for a maximum of 7 days may be payable
to cover accomodation, meals and incidental travel expenses.
- Normally, assistance with travel expenses will only be
provided for travel by the most economical, convenient means.
- Applicants should have completed their Programme of Study form
before applying for conference travel funds. Preference will be given to
students who are in the latter part of their candidature.
- The application process is to be determined by the Manager, Graduate Centre.
- Normally retrospective applications will not be considered.
