Teaching and Learning Centre

The Teaching and Learning Centre provides
University services in academic staff development, unit evaluation, student
learning, educational design, online learning and educational technologies,
HTML authoring and multimedia development.
The academic staff, undertake research in
their areas of specialisation in addition to providing University services.
Support and consultation in school-based research projects is available
where related to the Centre’s services in teaching and learning.
Facilities in the Centre include access
to networks for computer communications and online teaching and learning; facilities
for video and audio production; a video conferencing facility; an optical mark
reader for survey and multiple choice test data entry and analysis; and a collection
of resources for staff and students. The TLC can offer postgraduate supervision,
either within the Centre or in collaboration within Faculties.

in open and distance learning; computer communications and world wide web
publishing; electronic journals; Internet access and services for students.
- Mr C. Beasley - English as a Second Language; applied
linguistics; academic writing; genre analysis; legal language; student learning.
- Dr J. Bickmore-Brand – learning styles; pedogogy and androgeny;
learning across cultures; organisational development; postgraduate supervision;
numeracy.
- Dr R. Cummings - educational and programme evaluation;
vocational education and training; institutional research; survey design and
analysis; graduate attributes.
- Ms J. Hobson – critical thinking; philosophy of science;
postgraduate writing; student learning; graduate attributes.
- Ms M. Kemp - numeracy; mathematics education; use of technology
in learning mathematics.
- Ms L. Marshall - student learning; critical thinking:
literacy and study skills (tertiary level); independent learning; gender and
tertiary education; student retention; graduate attributes.
- Mr D. McGill – first year/transition students; equity
in tertiary education; student learning; social sciences; interdisciplinarity;
construction of identity.
- Dr R. Phillips – educational multimedia and online learning,
including project management, educational design, interface design and evaluation
of student learning.
- Ms R. Pospisil – educational design; online teaching and
learning; learning styles.
- Dr J. Silburn – equity issues; gender and tertiary education;
student attrition and retention; student learning; post-colonial literature.
