Graduate CentreMinimum / Maximum Enrolment PeriodsThe minimum period of candidature for a full time student is eighteen months for the MPhil and Research Masters (with Training), twelve months for the LLM (Research) degree or three years for the PhD or EdD degrees. For part-time students the time is doubled. There is provision for the Board to reduce the minimum period of candidature on the basis of relevant research undertaken elsewhere or for exceptional progress. You would need to make a special application to the Secretary of the Research Degrees and Scholarships Committee. The absolute minimum period of candidature is one year (for the MPhil, LLM(Research) , Research Masters ( with Training)and PhD degrees and for the thesis component of the EdD degree, and for both full-time and part-time candidates). Full-time MPhil, and PhD candidates are allowed maximum periods of two years and four years respectively in which to submit their thesis for examination. The maximum period for the LLM(Research) is twelve months, and the maximum period for the Research Masters (with Training) is 18 months. For part time students these periods are doubled, and are calculated on a pro rata basis for students mixing full-time and part-time candidature in the course of their enrolments. In exceptional circumstances, and subject to the approval of the Research Degrees and Scholarships Committee, some additional time may be allowed beyond the normal maximum times. However, you should be aware that the University receives no Commonwealth Government funding to support enrolment beyond the periods stated above. |
