The Peacocke Scholar will be selected from applicants who aspire to be leaders in their chosen field of study and will work among highly credentialed researchers in one of the most exciting and supportive environments for postgraduate study in Australia. This premium scholarship carries a stipend of $30,000 pa (tax-exempt) for up to 3.5 years, and will provide fares to Perth, removal allowance and thesis preparation allowance. Masters of Philosophy ScholarshipIn Environmental Science or Biotechnology at Murdoch University. A Masters scholarship is available at the School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia. The successful candidate will join an industry funded project investigating the DiCOM® process, a novel biological waste to energy process. Suitable applicants should have background in any of biotechnology, biology, microbiology or environmental science however those having a related background are also encouraged to apply. The Masters scholarship will provide a stipend of $A24,000 per year tax-free for up to 2 years (fees are also included but only for New Zealand and Australian citizens and permanent residents, otherwise international fees apply). Should the candidate secure an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), the scholarship will supplement the Award to provide a combined stipend of $A28,000 per year tax-free for up to 2 years. Allowances in addition to the scholarship include laboratory expenses, local and/or overseas conference travel and assistance with thesis costs. It is important to note that this scholarship is designed to cover living expenses and DOES NOT cover tuition fees for international students. International applicants would need to cover their own tuition fees (A$22,500 per year). The project will be based in the Environmental Biotechnology group at Murdoch University and will focus on the thermophilic anaerobic digestion phase of the DiCOM® process. Initially research will centre on control of organic acids, ammonia levels and viability of thermophilic bacteria in this industrial process. However, candidates will also be encouraged to generate their own ideas and initiatives. As research will be conducted in conjunction with industry, is likely that laboratory, pilot and full scale plants will be investigated. We welcome enquiries from candidates having appropriate qualifications (Bachelors degree), or whose industry experience qualifies them for admission to Masters study, and who are interested in engaging in first class fundamental and applied research that will benefit the environment.

Canadian Studies is defined as research which aims at a better understanding of Canadian society and/or culture and includes most disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. The grants are offered by the Association for Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand (ACSANZ), the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) and the Government of Canada. ICCS Graduate Student Scholarship Deadline: 30 September NEW DEADLINE Up to ten grants are awarded world-wide to Masters and Doctoral candidates to undertake thesis-related research on Canada at a Canadian university for 4-6 weeks. Up to C$3,500 is available for all expenses. ICCS Canadian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowships Deadline: 30 September NEW DEADLINE This program enables Canadian and foreign academics who have completed a doctoral thesis on a topic primarily related to Canada to visit a Canadian or foreign university with a Canadian Studies program for a teaching or research fellowship. Fellowships are for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months. Applicants must not be employed in a full-time university teaching position and must agree not to accept honoraria or salary during their fellowships. The grant will be C$2,500 per month plus the cost of a return airline ticket. ICCS Best Doctoral Thesis in Canadian Studies Deadline: 30 September This International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) Award is designed to recognize and promote each year an outstanding PhD thesis on a Canadian topic, written by a member (or one of his/her students) of a Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member, and which contributes to a better understanding of Canada. Doctoral Student Research Award (DSRA) Deadline: 1 November This award is designed to assist full-time graduate students at degree-granting institutions of higher education, whose dissertations are related in substantial part to Canada, to undertake doctoral research about Canada. The purpose is to increase knowledge and understanding of Canada and to support the development of Canadian Studies. The scholarship is provided by the Grain Research and Development Corporation and malting/brewing industry partners and it aims to ensure that the Australian barley industry delivers more consistent and better quality defined malt & malting barley to the international/domestic customers. Candidates with training on plant genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology are encouraged to apply for this position. The successful candidate will complete most of the research in the Western Australia State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre at Murdoch University. There are also opportunities for the candidate to do joint research in University of Adelaide and University of Tasmania, and to interact with malting and brewing industry partners. The scholarship provides a stipend up to $25,000/year for three years (tax free). Allowance for relocation will also available for interstate candidate.
