Environmental Science or Biotechnology Masters in Philosophy Scholarship
A Masters scholarship is available at the School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia. The successful candidate will join an industry funded project investigating the DiCOM® process, a novel biological waste to energy process. Suitable applicants should have background in any of biotechnology, biology, microbiology or environmental science however those having a related background are also encouraged to apply.
The Masters scholarship will provide a stipend of $A24,000 per year tax-free for up to 2 years (fees are also included but only for New Zealand and Australian citizens and permanent residents, otherwise international fees apply). Should the candidate secure an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), the scholarship will supplement the Award to provide a combined stipend of $A28,000 per year tax-free for up to 2 years. Allowances in addition to the scholarship include laboratory expenses, local and/or overseas conference travel and assistance with thesis costs.
It is important to note that this scholarship is designed to cover living expenses and DOES NOT cover tuition fees for international students. International applicants would need to cover their own tuition fees (A$22,500 per year).
The project will be based in the Environmental Biotechnology group at Murdoch University and will focus on the thermophilic anaerobic digestion phase of the DiCOM® process. Initially research will centre on control of organic acids, ammonia levels and viability of thermophilic bacteria in this industrial process. However, candidates will also be encouraged to generate their own ideas and initiatives. As research will be conducted in conjunction with industry, is likely that laboratory, pilot and full scale plants will be investigated.
We welcome enquiries from candidates having appropriate qualifications (Bachelors degree), or whose industry experience qualifies them for admission to Masters study, and who are interested in engaging in first class fundamental and applied research that will benefit the environment. Interested candidates please contact Dr. Ralf Cord-Ruwisch at R.Cord-Ruwisch@murdoch.edu.au or Lee Walker at L.Walker@murdoch.edu.au
