Transfer from MPhil or LLM(Research) to PhD  Candidature

Students enrolled for the MPhil or LLM(Research) degree may seek approval to transfer to PhD candidature with credit for the work completed at Master’s level.  If the supervisor supports such a request, he or she should write to the Secretary of the Research Degrees and Scholarships Committee.  The Committee will need to be convinced both that the research programme is capable of development to PhD level and that the student is capable of satisfactorily completing such a programme.  Such requests should be submitted with the student's annual progress report in September, although requests at other times may be considered.

Transfers may take place no earlier than three months after initial enrolment, and normally no later than eighteen months or three years after initial enrolment, for full-time and part-time students respectively.
