Discoverers Grants

The Discoverers Grant Fund has been established to enhance Murdoch University research with significant commercial potential. Recognising the difficulty of translating promising academic research to commercial application, Grants of $5000 to $20,000 are available to Murdoch researchers who are undertaking research with strong prospects of commercialisation. Up to 10 projects per year are envisaged to be funded on a competitive basis. These funds are available to enhance the attractiveness of a specific research project or an item of intellectual property, to industry and government partners for the purposes of

  • attracting further research funds,
  • strengthening collaborations, and/or
  • attracting commercialisation partners.

Selection Process
A grant application form can be obtained here MS Word and submitted to the Commercialisation Office. Suggestions for content of each section are included in the form. A meeting will then be set up between the researcher and one of the Managers from the Commercialisation Office to gain a further understanding of the proposed use of funds, the research conducted to date and the impact that the proposed funding will have on the project. For assistance completing the form, please also contact the Commercialisation Office.

A selection panel of persons drawn from internal and external sources will meet quarterly to assess applications received in the previous quarter and to approve funding of projects on the basis of the responses to the questions in the attached application form. Applications will close 15th February 15th May, 15th August, and 15th November each year
